Here at Midland Family Dental Care we pride ourselves on delivering impressive and satisfactory results to our patients and having our patients completely understand every step of the dental implant process so that they feel 100% comfortable and aware about what they are investing in. There are four main steps to the dental implant procedure at our Wyckoff, NJ office, consultation, surgery, healing and recovery, and the application of natural-looking replacement teeth. Read on to learn more about the process then contact us to schedule the first step, your consultation to see if you’re a good candidate for dental implants.

Many people don’t realize how important this step is. First, find a doctor that you feel comfortable with so that you can ask all the questions you need to completely understand the dental implant procedure. If you have any concerns, confide in your doctor about this as well so that way he or she can explain everything you need to know and understand about the process so you feel aware and at ease when it comes to a personal decision such as this one.

Once you have met with Dr. Puccio or another one of our expert doctors and you have both decided that dental implants is the right path for you, your appointment for surgery will be scheduled. During this procedure, Dr. Puccio will make small incisions in the gum line to reveal the jawbone so that he can use a special drill to prepare the bone for the artificial tooth roots. The artificial tooth roots are small titanium posts that screw into place. Once that is complete, your gums will be stitched up and temporary replacement teeth will be fitted on top during the healing and recovery period.

Recovery after Dental Implants

The process after dental implant surgery is vital because during this time a process calls osseointegration occurs. This is when the artificial tooth roots become fused to your jawbone. Osseointegration can take up to 6 months to fully fuse the two together; it creates a strong foundation to support your new replacement teeth. It is especially during this time that it is important to maintain proper oral hygiene and to avoid foods that are difficult to chew or may put pressure on your new healing implants. Don’t worry, after the procedure, one of our team members will be able to give you specific instructions on how to proceed during your dental implant recovery and as always, we are available to answer any questions or concerns you may have about the dental implant process whether you stop by or contact us by phone. Our friendly staff is here for you!

Natural-Looking Replacement Teeth

The final step that everybody looks forward to, their new teeth! Once osseointegration and recovery is complete, you will come back to our Wyckoff, NJ office to have your natural-looking replacement tooth or teeth fitted over the top of your dental implants. We work with you and a special dental laboratory that is specially equipped to create your customized replacement teeth that fits you and your smile. Not only will they fit great, they will match your existing teeth so closely that nobody will be the wiser that you received dental implants. By the time you leave, you will have a beautiful, polished smile ready to be shown off to the world and will last a lifetime.
